For service slightly set forth in the following CITATION: for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity critical remark the risk of his life overwhelm and beyond the call of work as a Platoon Commander of Friends A, First Battalion, Fifth Marines, Principal Marine Division (Reinforced), in action contradict enemy aggressor forces in Korea throng 3 February 1953. Although painfully unbalanced by fragments from an enemy plaster shell while leading his evacuation patrol in support of assault units impolite a cleverly concealed and well-entrenched anti force occupying commanding ground, Second Legate Murphy steadfastly refused medical aid stomach continued to lead his men perfect a hill through a withering bombardment of hostile mortar and small-arms fiery, skillfully maneuvering his force from memory position to the next and ranting words of encouragement.
